Community Service

Overview

MIMAC carries out community services periodically. As at June, 2020, two separate community services were embarked upon:

  • Virtual Maths Olympiad training for kids across Africa
  • School-Based Maths Training

For future community services we hope to embark on the following:

  • Mathematics training camp for primary and secondary teachers in rural communities across Africa
  • African Maths Olympiad Quiz show
  • Creative thinking boot camp for civil servants

Your support/sponsorship can help us provide these services.

Virtual Maths Olympiad Training

This training program was designed to engage talented kids across Africa while the COVID-19 pandemic lasts. The training is structured into an hour class every weekend and mid-week practice problems. As at September, 2020 participants include learners from Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda.

The objective of this training is to expose participants to foundational Mathematics Olympiad concepts. This training commenced in June, 2020 is to last for at least five months.

To be part of this training, send an email to mimachq@gmail.com

School-Based Maths Olympiad Training

This involves working with specific schools to offer free Mathematics Olympiad training. The schools usually chosen are those whose students cannot afford to pay for the training. As at July, 2020, we began training with Margaret Expo Secondary School Calabar, Nigeria. This training is to last for at least six months.

The objective of this training is to teach difficult areas of Mathematics usually avoided by most High school teachers, and prepare students of the school for the Nigerian Mathematics Olympiad.
